Before doing the post on Types of Ovens – How to Choose an Oven, Aparna had reached out to me to talk a bit about her convection oven. Aparna blogs at Aps Kitchen and from her the cakes and cookies on her site (the last few baked in her new convection oven) you can see that she is using her new convection oven well.
I am not an expert in baking yet but I would like to share some information about my oven.We had an electric oven before but as we shifted homes we had to buy a new one. I always wanted to bake goodies at home and I have tried out cakes but when it came to cookies, I always had some problem or the other so I was waiting for a convection oven.
What? Samsung Convection Oven cum Microwave
Where? Siddesh Electronics, Mumbai, but widely available in most kitchen appliances stores.
Price: The Actual price was 11,200 INR and Apsgot a discount and paid 9550 INR. But the prices have gone down now and it costs INR 10,790.
Easy recipes to get you started on that new convection oven!

My problem is the reverse of Deepa…I own samsung oven too and my cook did not get cooked in the middle at all…I wish someone could post detail pics of baking with pics of the oven and the modes and where to place the cake as many have the same problem as me when I googled to find solution to my problem…but to no avail. Thanks for any help.

Since I don't own this oven myself, it's hard to troubleshoot. Let me talk to Aps again.
Deepa
I also own this same model of microwave oven from samsung. I had tried to do a cake recipe from one of Sanjeev Kappor's cookbook. I had made use of the plain convection mode (nothing mentioned in the recipe book) while baking a cake as only temperature under which the cake had to be baked was mentioned. I had followed the recipe to the core but to my disappointment and horror the cake turned out very hard like a stone and not soft and fluffy. I will appreciate and be indebted to you guys if someone can throw some light on why this happened to me. Should I have used Convection plus Microwave mode for baking cake? Which mode should I normally use for baking cakes in this microwave ? Thanks and awaiting a response to address my query at the earliest

Deepa, as far as I know, you should use the regular convection mode. I have a feeling the cake turned hard because of the recipe/method you used. generally, if you overbeat your cake batter, it will turn very hard.

Hi I am planning to buy the same oven which Aps has mentioned. But can you tell me the price.

The Samsung Over The Range Microwave is basically a good machine with documentation written by an Engineer NOT an American House Wife Cook. Convection cooking is cover in 1/2 a page of button pushing. No pictures, no conversions from a Gas or Electric Oven. Cooking – for most of us – i a skill we pick-up by example and watching other cooks NOT reading technical manuals that are dry, cursory and void of images that relate to the recipe at hand. The device is very good but suffers greatly from poor cooking instructions.

@ shreya Normally the cooking time for a cake is 30-35 minute… @ 180C but it depends on what type of cake u r baking…
and cookies normally takes 15-20 minutes…. @ 180C
Infact it varies frm recipe to recipe….. Nd for the bread to come out hard the reason may be Improper mixing…. or qtty of ingredients…..

Thanks for this post! I recently bought an IFB MW convection oven and have baked Nags' chocolate cup cake recipe in it already. It turned out well. I would really appreciate it if experienced MW convection oven bakers can give me tips on setting temperature and time and how to judge cooking time in the MW convection setting. I'm totally new to baking and adapting traditional recipes to the MW with temperature and time settings and judging the cooking time are proving difficult. I overcooked my banana bread (Nags' recipe again:-) ) and it came out slightly hard. Thanks, Shreya

That's so cool Mads. Thank you so much sharing this info. Would love to learn more about your oven!

Nags,
I bake in a MW Convection oven too…and though I've grown up eating baked goodies which were made in a round electric oven (similar to the one you had earlier)and even had my first baking lessons with it too, I love baking in my MW convection just as much as I did in amma's round electric oven, and no qualms till date with my LG MW Convection oven…it totally rocks, and I loave it 🙂
