Marie biscuit chocolate logs – an an easy to make, no-bake recipe with Marie biscuits that’s perfect for a kids’ party or gathering.

I was first introduced to this recipe by Vaishali in 2007 when we were both working in the same team back in Google Hyderabad. Edible Garden was a new blog back then and she recommended this simple Marie biscuit dessert recipe that her mom used to make her
I loved the idea because I am have always beenย partial to desserts and puddings using Marie biscuits and tried the recipe that same weekend. Can’t believe this was almost 10 years ago!

I have made this simple dessert so many times and fine tuned the chocolate coating recipe to make it more stable and easy to do.
It may seem like a lot of butter but remember, you get around 10-12 “cookies” when you cut the stacked log so the total amount of butter gets divided into many smaller portions. Or, let’s just tell ourselves that and enjoy this treat, shall we? ๐

Marie biscuit chocolate logs recipe
Ingredients
- 20 Marie biscuits
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp instant coffee powder
- 3/4 cup butter softened to room temperature (see notes)
- 1/4 cup icing sugar or powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2-3 drops of vanilla extract optional
Instructions
- Place the softened butter in a bowl and add the icing sugar and cocoa powder along with vanilla extract (if using)
- Mix thoroughly until you get a soft mixture like frosting
- Heat the milk and add the coffee powder
- Mix well to combine
- Take your first Marie biscuit and dip into the hot milk for 5 seconds
- Remove and place on a plate
- Take about 1 tsp of the chocolate frosting and smear over the Marie biscuit
- Take the second biscuit and repeat the same process until you have a long biscuit stack with chocolate frosting in between
- Smear the remaining chocolate frosting all over the biscuit tower generously
- Refrigerate this biscuit tower for approximately 2 hours or overnight
- Take it out and lay down on a cutting board
- Use a fork to create lines over the chocolate log to resemble the lines on a wooden log
- Cut slightly diagonally to get your log cookies, the biscuits would be soft by then
- Serve immediately or keep chilled until ready to serve
Notes
- If the chocolate coating starts to melt once left outside, refrigerate again. To prevent this, make sure to use icing sugar rather than regular powdered sugar which has more moisture
- You can try the same recipe with digestive biscuits too
- The coffee powder in the milk is optional and it doesn't really give a strong flavour to the final cookies. I just like to mix coffee and cocoa so I add it usually. The vanilla is optional too but recommended
- The butter needs to be soft but not melted. Singapore is hot almost all the time and the day I made these, the butter kept melting on me. I had to add another 2 tbsp of icing sugar to stabilise it a bit so take note if you live in a warm place
- You can add some chopped cashew nuts or almond flakes over the log if you'd like. Makes it fancier and tastier
Step by step Marie Biscuit Chocolate Logs Recipe
Place the softened butter in a bowl and add the icing sugar and cocoa powder along with vanilla extract (if using)

Mix thoroughly until you get a soft thick mixture like frosting. If you find your chocolate mixture too runny, add more sugar.

Heat the milk and add coffee powder. Mix well to combine

Take your first Marie biscuit and dip into the hot milk for 5 seconds

Remove and place on a plate. Take about 1 tsp of the chocolate frosting and smear over the biscuit

Take the second biscuit and repeat the same process until you have a long biscuit stack with chocolate frosting in between

Smear the remaining chocolate frosting all over the biscuit tower generously

Refrigerate this biscuit tower for approximately 2 hours or overnight. The coating will be a bit messy due to the soft butter mixture but don’t fret, it will be fine once it sets and you slice into them, nobody can tell it’s messy. Also, yes that’s the inside of my fridge you see below!

Once set, take it out and lay down on a cutting board. Use a fork to create lines over the chocolate log to resemble the lines on a wooden log

Cut slightly diagonally with a sharp knife to get your log cookies, the biscuits would be soft by then

Serve immediately or keep chilled until ready to serve.
